Role

Book design, typesetting, cover

Edge of a deep stack of uncut paper sheets, soft light

The brief

The author walked 31 small rivers and wrote one short essay for each. The publisher wanted a book you could open on any spread and find your place.

The book

A two-column grid with a running river profile in the margin, a quiet serif for the essays and a mono for measurements, printed on uncoated paper.

Outcome

First printing of 1,500 copies, sewn binding, no dust jacket so the cover can be handled.
