Halden Ferry

A signage and timetable system for a small fjord ferry line: four piers, two boats and one rule, that every sign can be read from the deck in fog.

Year

2026

Category

Wayfinding

Client

Halden Fjord Lines (fictional)

Role

Wayfinding, signage, timetable design

A foggy pier with a railing and distant figures

The brief

Halden Fjord Lines runs two boats between four piers. Passengers were missing departures because each pier had its own handmade signs and timetables.

The system

One sign family built from three parts: a pier number you can read from 40 metres, a direction arrow cut into the post, and a timetable panel that lists only the next three boats.

Outcome

The panels are printed in-house on a desktop printer, so the crew changes the timetable each season without calling a designer.
